What are Cordyceps?

  • A cordycep is a dried fruiting mushroom and the mummified caterpillar of fungal content.
  • Found in Tibet and other parts of China’s high and cold elevation mountainous regions.
  • Cordyceps are prized for its tremendous healing powers.
  • Although wild Cordyceps are said to be the most powerful, they are quite expensive and difficult to buy in many parts of the world.

What are the health benefits?

  • Traditionally in Chinese medicine, it is known to regulate and ensure the normal functioning of various parts of the body, improve the immune system, promote overall vitality and longevity.
  • Especially beneficial to the kidney and lungs, helps relieve asthma.

How do I select cordyceps?

  • Cordycep are brittle, so handled with great care.
  • Whole pieces (body and tail intact) are more expensive.
  • Tibetan cordyceps are most expensive because their size and aroma. With Qinghai and Sichuan following closely behind.

How do I consume cordyceps?

  • Usually cordycep pieces are combined with other herbs to make a soup or tonic.
  • Alternatively, there are many capsules and bottled tonics containing cordycep.
